The history behind Black Onyx beef

There are different stories surrounding the origins of the Black Onyx meat, however, the true story begins in 1988, when Marubeni Corporation, a company involved in the import, export and market of food and other goods since 1856, focused on the beef market, searching for a type of Australian meat that could compete with the best in the world. This is how Australia ended up developing a breed that was able to stand out in such an elitist and demanding market.

In the quest to recreate the environmental conditions in which the famous and renowned Kobe breed was raised, Marubeni found Rangers Valley, a cattle breeding station located in New England, in Australia; a geographical point whose latitude is very similar to that of the Japanese plains where the best quality of meat in the world is produced.

And that moment marks the birth of of a new quality in meat. Tender, soft, with a degree of marbling never seen before in the entity. At first Marubeni named it OBX300, referring to the 300 days of special feed that received the cattle destined to be exported exclusively to Japan. Later the breed was named Black Onyx and today it is recognized as one of the best cuts in the world and the best in Australia.
